ANZAC DAY

To recognise ANZAC day, a significant day of remembrance and reflection for both Australia and New Zealand, OUANZ will be holding a commemorative service. This will be held on at 5:45pm on Friday 26th April at Rhodes House and is free to attend. It will run for approximately 45 minutes and will include brief speeches from representatives of the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions. Following the service, wreathes will be laid at Oxford War Memorial. All welcome, but please sign-up to attend.

Scholar talk on 'China and the Global Future:The Case for Optimism' with Scott Moore (Kentucky & Merton 2009)

Join Scott Moore, a political scientist in discussing water politics and policy, especially in China and South Asia. His new book: 'Subnational Hydropolitics: Conflict, Cooperation, and Institution-Building in Shared River Basin's ', looks at the causes of conflict over water within countries. Even in the era of climate change, there's nothing inevitable about conflict over water - provided we make the right investments in strengthening our institutions.

Scholar discussion: Inspired by Anand Ghiridharas' book "Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World"

Anand Giridharadas' work raises important questions about impact, morality and the responsibilities we have to society and to each other. In his new book "Winners Take All: The Elite Charade of Changing the World" author Anand Giridharadas argues that the wealthy have re-branded themselves as 'do-gooders' and monopolized the idea of 'Changing the World' in order to preserve the status quo--as well as obscure their own role in creating the societal problems they seek to address through their philanthropy projects.

Join us for a scholar talk on "The future of Healthcare and the Leaders we need" with Chai Chuah, the exDirector-General of health, New Zealand. He has been a prominent figure in the New Zealand health sector for 25 years, first with Canterbury DHB where he was Chief Financial Officer, Chief Operating Manager and acting Chief Executive, before spending over seven years as Chief Executive of Hutt Valley DHB. He has been in national leadership roles with the Ministry of Health since 2010 when he became National Director of the National Health Board.

Cello recital & Piano concert with Cellist Raphaela Gromes & Pianist Julian Riem

The acclaimed cellist Raphaela Gromes and her piano partner Julian Riem will be performing at Rhodes House on Friday, April 12, at 5:30pm. The duo will play the program of their Ireland tour, which features works by Rossini, Volans, and Martinu. The recital is co-hosted by German Rhodes Scholars and the Oxford German Society and will be free of charge for scholars and students; pre-registration is required.
